SUMMARY:Policy Roundtable on the "Free File Program Act of 2011"
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, April 17\, Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) attended a BCFC policy roundtable and provided remarks on H.R. 2569 the “Free File Program Act of 2011” impacting the IRS and tax preparation services\, products and data. \nNot only is Rep. Roskam the lead sponsor of H.R. 2569\, but he is also the Chief Deputy Majority Whip for House Republicans. BCFC supports H.R. 2569\, which would make the Free File program permanent and provides for a public private partnership as a helpful option for implementation. Although the IRS Free File program is almost a decade old\, popular\, and an important element of the IRS electronic filing initiative\, it could be terminated by the IRS without review and approval by Congress in favor of other electronic filing programs\, including programs in which the IRS would control tax preparation and electronic filing services. \n
